They received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Acts 17:11b
It’s funny the lengths you will go to find out information. Especially when it's something juicy! I am a part of a group chat. No, Wait. It’s one I like and participate in with joy. The other day one of the members teased the rest of us with a hint about a message she had received from a secret crush. She wouldn’t reveal who the secret crush was but gave us just enough details to necessitate some investigative work on our end. It was maddening for me! I spent the better part of an hour combing for clues on the Internet and rattling off my best guesses. The hunt was intense, and the guesses were well thought out, or so I thought. We went to great lengths to find out who she was talking about; even reaching out to other friends for their input based on our limited knowledge.
We were fervently seeking answers.
Somewhere in the middle of my investigative work, God tapped me on the shoulder. And when he got my attention the message was loud and clear. I had spent so much time, searching high and low, examining clues and racking my brain trying to find the answer to this one question. The answer, I knew, wouldn’t matter in a few weeks much less a year from now. My daughter, if you would only put this much effort into seeking out my truth. That truth will guide you during these unstable times. His voice was unmistakable and humbling. It was exactly what you would expect from the creator of every living thing in Heaven and on earth. It was convicting.
We live in a world with a never-ending news cycle. There is always something - the latest gadget, celebrity gossip, or world event - demanding our attention. It can make us wonder, explore and search for answers. But in the end, it can leave us empty. How much of what we know about the world around us and the people that live in it are life-giving? How much of the information we seek out is helpful for the growth and development of ourselves or others? Where does it reside on our journey to become the best versions of ourselves?
